John Henes

US Army field band (had a friend who was interested in Alexander Technique, took lessons, and became an Alexander teacher after service)
After leaving the Army, John took an entire summer of daily or bi-daily Alexander lessons.
John attended Indiana Univ. and studiee with Louis Davidson (Philadelphia Orchestra)
He moved to Chicago in 1976 to study with Jacobs, Herseth, and Chicowicz.

After completing his Alexander training with William Carrington (one of the first generation of Alexander teachers), he was invited by Chicowicz to lecture to 250-300 Northwestern Univ. music students.
Chicowicz knew of Alexander's work and admired concepts of "end gaining" and "means whereby" because that is the way he taught.
John later subbed with the Chicago Lyric Opera, auditioned at the first opening, and played principal, but disliked it because of the grueling schedule and exhaustion (2 rehearsals and 1 performance or 2 performances and 1 rehearsal every day during the season)
