  • practice long sustained lyrical passages on piccolo to build endurance (also long tones)
  • practice clarke #2 with rapid single tonguing to clear up tongue-finger coordination
  • play etudes and studies as much as solo material on piccolo
  • practice duets 8a
  • listen to intonation through resultant tones
  • slow movements require slow ornaments
  • keep the 2 feeling in the 3rd mvt.
  • determine the character of each phrase (it may be in contrasting lyrical style to what preceded) and follow that character through
  • keep the corners firm as though you could break a pencil with flesh only
  • everything leads to a downbeat
  • take care not to overblow or overaccent (everything is magnified on piccolo)
