Fundamental Suggestions:
- Use the leadpipe to warm-up and
develop relaxation.
- Fill your lungs from the bottom.
- Avoid the isometric grip in the gut.
- Stay relaxed during inhalation and
exhalation.
- Use the lungs like a bellows.
- Blow thorough the notes.
- Do not overblow.
- Less volume; more sound.
- Don't mistake volume for intensity.
- Sing.
- Sound is in the breath.
- The mind can not "will" the
body to create a motor function.
- Think only of sound.
- Stay goal oriented.
- Let the sound be your guide.
- Analysis is paralysis.
- Old habits do not disappear. New
habits take the place of old. If you are lazy, old habits
will take over.
- Stay relaxed but energized.
- Don't force the air.
- Don't hold back the air.
General Practice Suggestions:
- Practice with a friend.
- Play only as high as you can stay
relaxed (otherwise you are practicing tension).
- Use transposition as a means for
developing range.
- Sing, slam valves, say notes.
