Teachers
Equipment:
Fundamentals
- Long Tones (from middle G
chromatically down)
- Schlossberg (first few pgs)
Fundamental Suggestions:
- Breathe as though you were going to
swim underwater to the other side of the pool.
- Watch yourself in a mirror-if
everything looks good you are probably doing it right.
- Practice slowly!
- Single most important aspect of
playing any instrument is sound.
- Make a list of your weaknesses and get
to work on them.
- After practicing the low register for
a few minutes, play something high (so the embouchure
doesn't reset).
- Every note you play must be musical.
Jazz:
- Work from a motif and develop it
throughout your solo
Jazz Suggestions:
- Listen to and absorb the sound of the
greats in all types of music
- Capture and convey the appropriate
feeling of the music
- Interact with the other members of the
group
